Hardness Tester Calibration & Repair in California

A hardness tester that drifts sends bad material downstream with a passing grade. American Gage both calibrates and repairs hardness testers — one of the few Southern California labs handling the full service in-house since 1968.

Calibration plus the repair nobody else wants to do

Hardness testers are mechanical instruments with wear parts — and most calibration providers will verify one but won’t fix it. We do both: verification of your tester’s performance, and repair service for major hardness tester types when wear or damage is behind the drift. Per our standing policy, repair estimates never exceed 50% of the cost of a new unit.

That matters to heat-treat operations under Nadcap and machine shops certifying material condition to customer specs, where an unreliable tester means quarantined product.

Serving California’s metal-working base

Bench testers are heavy and sensitive to moves, so many customers pair tester service with our on-site visits across Orange County and Los Angeles County. Portable testers ride the free pickup routes. Either way, certificates document as-found/as-left condition with NIST traceability under our A2LA ISO/IEC 17025:2017 accreditation.

What we see most

  • Bench hardness testers (Rockwell-type)
  • Portable hardness testers
  • Durometers
  • Test blocks (verification)

Hardness Tester Calibration & Repair FAQs

Do you repair hardness testers or just calibrate them?

Both — repair and calibration for major hardness tester types, so a drifting tester can be corrected and certified in one cycle instead of bouncing between vendors.

Can you service our bench tester on-site?

Yes — bench testers often shouldn’t travel, and our technicians cover Orange County and LA County on-site. Portables can use the free pickup routes instead.
